Remote (pendant/"handle") not working

In the process of setting up the M3 Ultra. I have the machine running, and the software installed. I can use the software controls to communicate with the machine (home, axis control, all works). However, the remote control “handle” doesn’t seem to work.

  • batteries are installed.
  • USB receiver is connected to PC where software is running.

I know it’s working on some level, because if I press buttons on the remote when the USB receiver is disconnected, no lights on the remote come on; if I press buttons on the remote when the USB receiver is connected, I see the red “activity” light (second from right) flashing. So there must be some communication with the USB device happening.

In the M-Laser software, I have tried the “Remoter Match” button (in the “advanced” section). I see “The handle module was loaded successfully” message, but nothing else changes.

I notice that the USB device will often disconnect and reconnect a moment later (I hear the sounds from the PC indicating when this happens.) Could this be a faulty USB device or a software issue? It seems to be using the default USB HID drivers, I do not believe there were any other drivers installed that I am aware of.

Sounds maddening! You’ve probably tried a different USB port already? If that doesn’t fix it, I would ask for a replacement antenna.

Yes, behavior is the same across different ports. Tried the receiver HW on a Linux PC (so I could easily monitor system logs & run a USB capture), and whenever I press buttons on the remote, I see the receiver disconnect & reconnect on the USB bus, which makes me think it’s a hardware issue.

For reasons that I cannot fully explain, after failing on 2 different computers, the handle now works on the 3rd computer I have tested. I see the “handle rouse” messages in the log and the handle works to control the machine.

I’m not sure what’s different about this computer setup. Fingers crossed it keeps working.
